Tumut Valley Holiday Resort - May 17th - 22nd 2009

You just don't know what you missed !!!
Great company, great motel, great food, great tour and great weather

The Tumut coach, with a friendly and knowledgeable driver, ventured up the Hume Highway to collect the tourists who had gathered at collection points at both Merrylands and Parramatta. And so the trip began. Armed with a plentiful supply of lollies to sustain the intrpid travellers, the coach meandered down the Hume. On the way short stops were at Hamilton Hume's Cottage at Yass, before heading to Tumut Amaroo Motel which was to be our home-away-from home for the next five (5) days.

The next five days proved to be be varied and interesting. Below is a brief diary of some of the things that we fitted in during the trip.

Located in Kosciusko National Park, we visited the most impressive and compact little cave that most of us had ever seen. (Jillabean at the Yarrangabilly Caves). We viewed stalactites and stalagmites, shawls and cave corals - the cave being approx 2 million years old!!!

At Boggy Creek, Tumarumba, the 2 hour show included mustering, shearing, working and training kelpies and outstanding horsemanship. One of our more intrepid ladies even had a flower "whip-cracked" from each hand.

The Pioneer Women's Hut at Glenroy gave us an insight into life in the past with the museum. Whilst here we were presented with a wonderful feast (lunch) as well as having an opportunity to purchase some of the local craft work. Our historical knowledge was increased further bu out visit to the Man from Snowy River Museum at Corryong.

Visiting the Talbingo T3 Power Station, the Tumut Valley Violets' Farm and Millet Broom Factory and walking through the tall and mighty Sugar Pines and the Paddy's River Falls area completed a marvellous and meorable experience for all. Not forgetting our lunchtime picnics, fondly labelled "Grub in the Scrub" and our home-made biscuits for our morning teas.

Just when we thought we couldn't cope with any more, dusk set in and evening arrived. The evenings tended to follow the same pattern, but were never boring - happy hour, a magnificent home-style meal and then the highlight of the night - trivia quizzes and competitions. Consider this - Do you know what a father, mother and baby mouse would be called?

Buck, Doe and Pinky is the correct answer - however we preferred our answer - Mickey, Minnie and Mini-minor !!!

It was all good fun, even if there was no winner.

At the end of the exciting 5 days, we waved a sad farewell to our wonderful hosts at the Tumut Amaroo Motel. All was not over yet as we still had a few more final sights to see as we headed for home. At Gundagi there was the usual Dog on the Tucker Box, but there was also the longest wooden bridge in the Southern Hemisphere and Rusconi's marble Masterpiece, then on to Yass for Crisp's Art Glass Gallery.

From Gundagi then it was onto Merrylands and Parramatta where we were dropped off. Al we can say is - we enjoyed an informative and fun-filled week. Our memories of the time together seeing more of our great country will be with us for some time - well at least until the next Holroyd Probus club week away.

Our next week away is planned for Forster - details will be available on the website when they are finalised, so stay tuned
